Wormwood
Botanical Name: Artemisia absinthium
🌍 Where It’s Grown
Wormwood grows naturally in Europe, North Africa, Western Asia, and North America.
Your batches are typically sourced from dry, sunny regions where the plant develops its strong aromatics and medicinal potency.
🌿 Benefits
• Traditionally used to support digestion and stimulate appetite
• Known for helping reduce bloating, gas, and sluggish digestion
• Contains natural compounds that may help the body maintain parasite balance
• Bitter tonics like wormwood support the liver and gallbladder
• Energetically used for clearing negativity and strengthening intuition
• Historically used in ceremonial brews for spiritual visioning
🔥 Hot Brew or ❄️ Cold Brew?
Hot brew only — and always in small amounts.
Wormwood is extremely bitter and potent.
Hot Brew:
• ½ tsp per cup
• Water 200–212°F
• Steep 5 minutes max
• Use sparingly and avoid long steep times (very bitter)
Cold Brew:
• Not recommended
• Cold infusion does not extract the benefits properly and still leaves harsh bitterness
🍯 Flavor Pairings to Improve Taste
Wormwood is intensely bitter, so pairings help soften it:
• Honey (the best companion)
• Peppermint or spearmint
• Lemon balm
• Licorice root
• Ginger
• Citrus peel (especially orange)
🌬 Can It Be Smoked in an Herbal Cigarette?
Yes — but very lightly and always blended.
• Traditionally used in smoke blends for ritual cleansing and visionary work
• Strong aroma; best mixed with mullein, mugwort, lavender, or damiana
• Use minimal amounts due to potency
✨ Spiritual / Metaphysical Uses
• One of the strongest herbs for clearing heavy energy, attachments, and psychic debris
• Used for protection, banishing, and removing unwanted influences
• Enhances dreamwork, intuition, and psychic awareness
• Often burned or carried for spiritual strength and boundary protection
• Historically used by healers, seers, and root workers for deep spiritual work
âš Contraindications
