Sassafras Bark

Botanical Name: Sassafras albidum

🌍 Where It’s Grown
Sassafras is native to Eastern North America, especially the Appalachian region, Southeastern U.S., and Great Lakes areas.
It grows wild in forests, woodland edges, sunny slopes, and old homestead areas.
Most Sassafras bark used today is wildcrafted, as the trees grow abundantly and naturally in rich, well-drained soil.

🔥 Hot Brew or ❄️ Cold Brew?
Hot Brew (recommended):

  • 1 tsp dried bark

  • 8 oz boiling water

  • Simmer 10–15 minutes (decoction method)

  • Strain + enjoy

  • Produces a warming, root-beer-like aroma

Cold Brew:

  • 1–2 tbsp bark

  • 16 oz cold water

  • Steep 8–12 hours

  • Results in a smoother, sweeter flavor

  • Much milder than hot brew

🍯 Flavor Pairings / What to Add
Sassafras has a sweet, spicy, root-beer-like flavor.

Pairs beautifully with:

  • Cinnamon (adds warmth + sweetness)

  • Clove (deepens flavor)

  • Ginger (warming + boosts circulation)

  • Orange peel (brightens the blend)

  • Vanilla (classic root-beer synergy)

  • Honey complements the naturally sweet aroma

Energetically, pair with herbs that bring warmth, courage, and cleansing.

🌬 Can It Be Smoked in an Herbal Cigarette?
Not recommended.
Sassafras bark becomes harsh and irritating when burned.
It is better suited for teas, brews, and spiritual uses, not smoking blends.
