Feverfew
Botanical Name: Tanacetum parthenium
🌍 Where It’s Grown
Feverfew is native to Europe and the Mediterranean, but now grows widely across North America.
Your batches are typically cultivated in well-drained soils in temperate climates, where the aerial parts (leaves + flowers) are harvested during peak bloom for maximum potency.
🌿 Benefits
• Physical Wellness: Traditionally used to ease headaches and migraines, reduce inflammation, calm menstrual tension, support digestion, and soothe general aches.
• Energetic / Emotional: Helps release irritation, frustration, and emotional tension; supports mental clarity and calm focus.
• Traditional Uses: Used since ancient Greek times for fevers, headaches, and cooling the body’s “excess heat.”
🔥 Hot Brew or ❄️ Cold Brew?
Best preparation: Hot Brew
This herb releases its bitter, medicinal compounds most effectively in warm water.
Hot Brew Instructions:
• 1 tsp dried feverfew leaf per cup
• Pour hot water (just off boil, 200–205°F)
• Steep 5–10 minutes
• Slight bitterness is normal — add honey or citrus to soften the taste
Cold Brew:
• Less bitter and easier to drink for some
• Steep 6–8 hours in cool water in the fridge
• Add lemon or mint for flavor balance
🍯 Flavor Pairings to Improve Taste
Feverfew is naturally bitter. Good pairings include:
• Lemon or orange peel
• Peppermint or spearmint
• Chamomile
• Rose petals
• Honey
• Hibiscus
These help soften bitterness and align with its cooling, calming energetics.
🌬 Can It Be Smoked in an Herbal Cigarette?
No.
Feverfew is not traditionally smoked and may irritate the respiratory system if burned.
