Elder Berries
Botanical Name: Sambucus nigra
(Also called Black Elderberry)
🌍 Where It’s Grown
Elder trees are native to Europe but now thrive throughout North America.
Your batches are typically cultivated in Eastern Europe or the Pacific Northwest (USA), where elder shrubs grow in rich, moist soil and sunny field edges. The berries are harvested when fully ripe and dried at low temperatures to preserve potency.
🌿 Benefits
• Physical Wellness: Strong immune-support herb known for helping the body respond to seasonal illness; rich in antioxidants; supports respiratory health; may reduce the duration of cold or flu symptoms.
• Energetic / Emotional: Helps strengthen emotional resilience, protects the energy field, and supports grounding during stressful times.
• Traditional Uses: Used for centuries in European folk medicine as a winter remedy, immune tonic, and protective botanical.
🔥 Hot Brew or ❄️ Cold Brew?
Best preparation: Hot Brew (Simmered Decoction)
Raw elderberries should always be heated before consuming.
Hot Brew Instructions:
• Use 1 tbsp dried berries per cup of water
• Simmer for 15–20 minutes
• Strain and sweeten with honey if desired
• Great as a daily immune-support tonic or seasonal wellness tea
Cold Brew:
Not recommended — raw berries must be heated to break down compounds that may cause stomach discomfort.
🍯 Flavor Pairings to Improve Taste
Elderberries have a deep, fruity, earthy, slightly tart flavor. They pair beautifully with:
• Cinnamon
• Clove
• Ginger
• Orange peel
• Rose hips
• Hibiscus
• Honey
• Vanilla bean
• Peppermint
These blend well for immune support and make excellent wellness tonics and syrups.
